More about the new children's hospital

Costing over £100m, the new children's hospital will be fully completed by 2010. This is part of a major programme to transform the Newcastle Hospitals - the largest project of its kind ever undertaken in the North East. Its legacy will be much more than a set of new buildings - this is about creating a wide reaching network of care which will benefit everyone across the North East. Our expert staff are already recognised as some of the best in their fields, not only nationally but internationally. We're also unique in offering a wider range of services than any other group of hospitals in the UK. State-of-the-art facilities like the new children's hospital will allow us to continue to offer a truly world-class service for future generations

Caring for children from just a few months old to teenagers, facilities at the 245-bed hospital range from general care for common conditions to much more complex treatment such as children's dialysis and specialist cancer care. And because we are in the privileged position of building a hospital specifically designed for young people we've made sure that there are a few surprises for our patients. So, as well as a roof garden and dedicated leisure areas, we've also included a private cinema. After all, spending time in hospital isn't top of most kids' list of things to do, but why should it be boring?
